Also called the Anglerfish nebula or rotten fish nebula, LDN1251 is a complex area of dust that blocks much of the background light, producing dark patches.  At the same time, some of the dust is reflecting light, which allows us to see it. LDN1251 is only about 1000 light years away, while the two interesting background galaxies (upper right and lower left) are many millions of light years away.
